Davies dedication week kicks off Tuesday

The Eagle has landed!  On Tuesday evening, dedication events begin at Davies High School with the unveiling of the Judge Ronald N. Davies mural in the Commons. All events are open to the public, and take place at Davies High School unless otherwise noted:

Tuesday, August 16, at 6:00 p.m.
Judge Ronald N. Davies Mural Unveiling and Open House
This open house event, hosted by the FPS Foundation & Alumni Network, features the unveiling of the Davies mural by artist Karen Bakke, a video presentation on the construction process by photographer Jack Discher, addresses by Davies Principal Dr. Jeff Schatz and ND DPI Superintendent Dr. Wayne G. Sanstead, Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting, and building tours.

Friday, August 19, at 1:00 p.m.
“The Legal Decisions of Judge Davies”
This legal symposium event is hosted by Serkland Law Firm. It features speakers and presentations on the decisions of Judge Davies (the Hon. Ralph R. Erickson), his family life (Ms. Jean Davies Schmith), trying cases in his courtroom (Atty. Carlton Hunke), and the role of the judiciary in enforcing citizens’ rights (the Hon. Gerald W. VandeWalle).

Saturday, August 20, at 12:00 p.m.
“Rocking Chair” Symposium Event featuring the Little Rock 9
This  history event, at the Bluestem Events Center in Moorhead, features conversations with Little Rock Nine members Carlotta Walls LaNier and Dr. Terrence Roberts, and is moderated by historian and retired FPS social studies teacher Carl Oberholtzer.

Sunday, August 21, at 2:00 p.m.
Dedication Ceremony
The dedication ceremony features remarks by U.S. Court of Appeals Judges Myron Bright (8th Circuit), Mary Schroeder (9th Circuit), U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Stephen Breyer, and Little Rock Nine member Carlotta Walls LaNier.


Directions
:  Due to current road construction, Davies High School is only accessible from South University Drive at 76th Avenue South.  Attendees to the event should take 76th Avenue 1½ miles west to 25th Street and turn north. Head ½ mile north to the main entrance and turn right.  Follow the perimeter road along the south side of the building to the east side student parking lot.
